Disclaimer
Last updated: March 2025
Please read this Disclaimer carefully before using keralatrek.com. By using this site you acknowledge and accept the limitations described below.
1. Information only — not official Forest Department
Kerala Trek is an independent information portal. We are not the Kerala Forest Department, Kerala Tourism Department, KFDC, or any government authority. Information on this site is compiled from publicly available Forest Department records, official portals, and verified sources, but we have no official affiliation with any government body.
For official and legally binding information on permits, trail closures, and forest regulations, always refer directly to:
- Kerala Forest Department: forest.kerala.gov.in
- KFDC Ecotourism: kfdcecotourism.com
- Your local District Forest Office
2. Trail status and permit information may change
Trail status (open, closed, restricted), permit fees, daily trekker limits, office timings, and Forest Department contact details change regularly. We update our information as frequently as possible, but we cannot guarantee real-time accuracy.
Before every trek, verify the following directly with the relevant Forest Department office:
- Whether the trail is currently open
- Current permit fee and daily trekker quota
- Whether advance booking is required
- Any seasonal or temporary closures
- Guide and documentation requirements
3. Trekking is inherently dangerous
Trekking in Kerala’s forests and hills carries serious and unavoidable risks. These include but are not limited to:
- Wildlife: Elephants, leopards, king cobras, wild boar, and other animals inhabit these forests. Wildlife encounters can be unpredictable and dangerous.
- Weather: Flash floods, landslides, sudden fog, and extreme rain are common, particularly in Wayanad and Idukki districts. Conditions can change rapidly.
- Terrain: Steep gradients, slippery rocks, river crossings, and unmarked paths exist on many trails.
- No emergency services: Many trek areas have no mobile signal and are far from hospitals or rescue services.
- Altitude: High-altitude treks like Meesapulimala (2640m) and Agasthyarkoodam (1868m) carry altitude-related risks.
Kerala Trek provides safety information as general guidance only. We are not qualified medical or safety professionals. Nothing on this site constitutes professional safety advice. Always seek qualified guidance and undertake treks at your own risk.
4. Forest stay and accommodation information
Rates, availability, facilities, and booking procedures for all forest stays listed on this site — including FD inspection bungalows, KFDC eco-camps, and private eco-stays — are subject to change without notice. We verify this information periodically but cannot guarantee current accuracy.
Always confirm current rates and availability directly with the property or Forest Department office before travelling. We are not responsible for any travel costs, bookings, or losses incurred due to outdated information on this site.
5. Operator directory
Operators listed in our directory are independent businesses. Inclusion in our directory does not constitute endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee of service quality, safety, or reliability. We do not verify operator licences, insurance, or safety certifications. You engage any operator entirely at your own discretion and risk.
6. Affiliate links and sponsored content
This site participates in the Amazon Associates affiliate programme. Some links to trekking gear on our Safety page are affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you purchase through these links, at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence our content or recommendations.
Operator listings marked “Featured” or “Staff Pick” are paid placements. This is disclosed on the Forest Stays and Operators pages. Paid placement does not imply our endorsement of the quality or safety of the operator’s services.
7. Medical and health
Nothing on this site constitutes medical advice. Information about first aid, altitude sickness, snake bites, and other health topics is provided as general reference only. Always consult a qualified medical professional before undertaking strenuous physical activity, especially at altitude. Carry a first aid kit and ensure you have appropriate travel insurance including emergency evacuation cover before trekking in remote forest areas.
8. Emergency situations
If you or someone in your group is in a life-threatening emergency in a Kerala forest:
- Forest Department Helpline: 1926
- Fire and Rescue: 101
- Police: 100

Always inform someone outside the forest of your route and expected return time before trekking. Register with the forest checkpost when entering any restricted or permit-required area.
