Anamudi 2695m — highest peak in South India. Summit restricted for Nilgiri Tahr protection. Special expedition permits via Munnar Wildlife Warden. Eravikulam Park trails approach the base.

Restricted

Anamudi at 2695m is the highest peak in South India and the highest point in India outside the Himalaya-Karakoram range. The name means 'elephant's forehead' in Malayalam — the mountain's outline resembles an elephant's head. Direct summit access is currently restricted by the Forest Department to protect the Nilgiri Tahr calving grounds. However, trekkers with special research or expedition permits may apply via the Wildlife Warden's office in Munnar. The Eravikulam National Park trails at 2100–2300m approach the base of the peak and offer close-up views. The summit area is home to Nilgiri Tahr, Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, gaur, and rare endemic plants.
