Athirappilly hosts Kerala's largest waterfall at 24 metres — called the Niagara of Kerala. A short forest trail leads through the riparian forest to the waterfall viewpoints. The surrounding Vazhachal Reserved Forest has excellent birdwatching including the endemic Malabar Grey Hornbill. The forest has a hornbill sanctuary.
