Edakkal Caves at 1200m contain prehistoric rock engravings dating to the Neolithic period — one of only two such sites in India. The trail from the base involves steep stone steps through forest to the cave entrance. The engravings depict animals and human figures over 5000 years old. Suitable for history enthusiasts and families.
